Adjusto lets you work directly with policyholders so they can help build the claim—without slowing you down.
You can invite policyholders to collaborate on claim. They’re able to add items in their own view and submit them to the claim for an adjuster to review.
Before You Start
We strongly recommend you start with Crash Course: Create & Work a Claim.
You can either reuse the test claim from part one or create a new test claim to use during this tutorial.
You’ll need another another email address which we can invite as a policyholder.
Invite a Policyholder
From inside your claim:
- Click
Collaborate
- Enter your secondary email as your policyholder email
- Send the invite

That’s it on your end as an adjuster. But we’re going to play the role of a policyholder too.
Finally, Sign Out as an Adjuster or open a new window in Incognito/Private Browsing to act as a policyholder.
Click your initials or the triple dot button to open the Sign Out button.

Join as a Policyholder
Check your email for an email inviting you to collaborate on Adjusto.
The policyholder view works on both mobile and desktop. We’ll start with the mobile view.
Sign up with your policyholder account. You’ll just need to set a name and password.
Adding Items as a Policyholder
Like adjusters, policyholders can add items in multiple ways:
- Spreadsheet upload (CSV, Excel, handwritten)
- Add individually
- Automatically from videos and photos
However, when a policyholder adds an item, it’s not immediately run through the AI valuation system. That only happens when a policyholder submits the item.
Policyholders will only see the data they put in. AI valuations and product matches are only visible to adjusters.
So let’s start adding items!

Spreadsheet Upload
The spreadsheet upload works the same as the adjuster flow. Upload a file (sample files here), and the items will appear in the Items tab. See Crash Course: Create & Work a Claim for more info on that
Individually in App
Policyholders can also manually type add in items, in a form view.

Videos & Photos
This is the cool bit. Adjusto’s AI is able to take items from videos & photos.
Videos work better than photos, especially when you conversationally narrate which items you want to add. Here’s a quick guide on how to record a great video.
- Pan over items slowly, but not super slowly. You just need to be able to make out what is in frame.
- Talk about what you’re recording: “Here’s a printer, it’s 4 years old, I bought it from Amazon.” The AI knows how to handle all those details.
- Focus on brand logos and model numbers, the AI can pick those up and add them to the description. You can pickup and turn over items, so long as you’re recording.
- Keep it under 3 mins. You can add as many videos as you’d like, so don’t worry about taking a bunch.
- Rule of thumb: if a person can tell what the item is when they watch the video, the AI can too
Videos are segmented out by room, so start by using New Room to make room.
Next select a video and add it to your new room. You can use a sample video from here or record your own.
Then click Upload 1 File to start the video upload.

The AI will start processing the items and send you an email when they’re ready. The Items tab will automatically update with them when they’re ready.
Once processed, you can review and modify the items list.
Items are divided into
- Draft - Not ready to submit, some fields are missing
- The Description, Age, Quantity, and Unit Price need to be set for the item to be submittable
- Ready to Submit - Item can be submitted to an adjuster
- Submitted - Item has been submitted to adjuster and can no longer be edited by policyholder
Update the items in your items list so they’re Ready to Submit.

Once your items are Ready to Submit, click Submit Items to send them to the adjuster.
Policyholder Desktop Experience
Most of the policyholder experience is the same on desktop browsers as it is on mobile browsers.
However the Items view is enhanced for the desktop.
Items are listed in a spreadsheet interface that works like Excel or Google Sheets.
- You can use your keyboard arrows to move around
- You can copy and paste across multiple cells
- You can sort & filter by column
- You can add new items at the top of the spreadsheet
Add in a few items in the top row of the spreadsheet to see how it works.

You can also add in more items via spreadsheets or videos to fill out the spreadsheet more too.
Practice
- Test out both the mobile and desktop experiences
- Record your own video and upload it
- Add in items manually from your phone
- Upload a handwritten loss sheet (sample here) and edit it in the desktop items list
- Once you’ve submitted items, you can login to your adjuster account and review them just like you did in Crash Course: Create & Work a Claim.
